Comments by "seneca983" (@seneca983) on "Estonia's ONE CANDIDATE Presidential Election Explained - TLDR News" video.
In many countries where the president is mostly a figurehead the president is chosen by the parliament. Germany is another example.

@eksiarvamus Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are called the "Baltic States" so Estonia is Baltic in the geographic (but not in the linguistic) sense.
2
@eksiarvamus It's the aforementioned three countries. The term "Baltic States" usually refers to these three countries specifically. Maybe that's somewhat illogical but it's in very common usage nonetheless.
1
@eksiarvamus Not linguistically, no but that's not what it's referring to.
1
@eksiarvamus Well, "Baltic" doesn't only refer to the Baltic languages. Anyway, I don't know why that name was chosen but it's in common use nonetheless.
1
@minaolenella869 But those countries are the members of the Baltic Assembly. Latvians and Lithuanians also speak a Baltic language. The Estonians don't speak a Baltic language but based on geography and membership in the Baltic Assembly makes it logical to call Estonia a Baltic state as well just like Finland is called a Nordic country even though Finnish isn't a North Germanic language.

@minaolenella869 "You are confusing cause and consequence here." No, it doesn't matter which is the cause. Calling the members of the Baltic Assembly "Baltic" makes sense.
1
@minaolenella869 "not, if the members dislike it" Does any of the member countries dislike it? "What if people start to call US, Canada and Mexico Naftas?" It wouldn't sound problematic even if that kind usage hasn't become common.

@minaolenella869 "members dislike it.And multiple people have already told you that." This is the first time I've heard of it and eksiarvamus hasn't said it, at least not explicitly, so only a single person has said it to me so far. "It is frankly disrespectful that all Baltic states are known off is Soviet occupation" At least I don't associate the name Baltic States with that. "So you are really saying that it would not be problematic, if people say, that US Canada and Mexico should all unite into one country and have one president. And all three countries are basically the same?" I have not said they should unite into one country. Just using a name like Baltic Countries (or Nordic Countries, or Benelux Countries, etc.) doesn't imply they should necessarily unite (any more than they already have). The OP of this thread, Vojtěch Nitra, suggested a Baltic Union but I've not made any such suggestions myself.

"This is not a 'presidential system' as you suggest at the end of your clip." He didn't suggest that. Yes, he used the word "presidential" but it's clear from the context that he didn't mean it in the sense of presidential vs. parliamentary system.
1
@nautilusshell4969 The word "presidential" in this case just meant "relating to the office of the president" so the "presidential system" just referred to how the president is chosen and how the office functions (mostly the former in the context of this video). It didn't mean that the wider government would function as a presidential (rather than parliamentary) system.
