  1. Gas is like 6% of the energy used in Finland on average. Losing it would not be catastrophic. Germany and Italy are in a much worse position when it comes to gas.

  2. The EU mutual defense clause is weaker than NATO's article 5 in two ways. Firstly, it doesn't say that an attack against one is an attack against all. Secondly, it doesn't explicitly mention military intervention.

"Much safer to be neutral and benefit from cheap Russian energy supply with no sanction damage to their economy." That is not a good option while Russia is invading Ukraine.

  11.  @AnnedolfFrankler911  "Greater Finland, mate." This was just the dream of some people in Finland. Finland a state wasn't making any claims on e.g. East Karelia. Prior to the Winter War, Finland had declared neutrality in the war between Germany and Poland, Britain, & France. However, neutrality didn't prevent it from getting invaded.

  16.  @archmad  Having Finland and Sweden in NATO makes it much easier to defend Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania due to e.g. the possibility of using planes deployed from there.
