There's also one more way Sweden might get into NATO: Erdogan losing the election. Though, I have to admit that I don't know what the other candidates think of Sweden's potential accession.

If no one else cares at all then they presumably don't care to prevent Sweden's entry, especially if they think Turkey has more pressing issues? "It is common belief in Turkey that small countries like Sweden will not be of any use to NATO. This is not at all a wrong thought." That thought is quite incorrect. The geographic position of Sweden (and even more so that of Finland) is good for protecting the Baltic countries who are geographically in a very vulnerable position.

@stormcloaks1042 Isn't he behind in the polls? Ignoring Sweden's and Finland's NATO bids, I would personally hope that Erdogan loses, mainly because of his stupid monetary policy. He's stubbornly persisting in doing exactly the opposite of what a clear majority of economists agree is the right course of action during high inflation. This kind of stubbornness and arrogance in the face of expert opinion does not paint the picture of a rational decision maker. This is causing unnecessary damage to Turkey's economy.

@ardaturkoglu11 I don't know who specifically you're referring to. I don't think I've been inconsistent in this regard.

@ardaturkoglu11 "I'm referring to westerns." That's a very large group of people. Many Westerners say different things because they believe different things. Were you referring to me since put your comment under my comment? (I am from a country that's usually considered Western.)

@ardaturkoglu11 In this thread I only see one commenter (der defr) calling Erdogan a dictator and he didn't seem to make any predictions about the upcoming election. Also, we don't know if he's a Westerner or not; his channel page doesn't give a location.
