@cliveso "can be gamed by splitting up big loans into smaller ones" But this was more difficult (though perhaps not impossible) to do in the days of yore when you (mostly) didn't have legal persons like corporations and all debt was from people to other people. Yes, it's possible to launder the debts through multiple people but that's not simple to do on a large scale and it would need to be done pre-emptively before the death/bankruptcy.
