  2.  @tomewyrmdraconus837 : "From a modern perspective, the language used when we were hunter-gatherers would almost certainly not qualify as a language." I find that very hard to believe (at least without a source). There are still some basically paleolithic or neolithic cultures and they still have what are most definitely languages. The languages might lack some concepts (like numbers) that would not be that important for hunter-gatherers, but are still quite sufficient for conversing about everyday life, telling stories, telling jokes etc.
