@busetgadapet "it is not like chinese cant invest abroad" To a large extent, they can't. There's an annual limit on how much currency they can convert. Thus they can't easily access foreign stock markets or even the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The only stock exchange easily available to them is the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

@haiwang2857 "wealthy Chinese can invest in the financial market and buy stocks" Yes, but they can (for the most part) only do it in China, so basically the Shanghai Stock Exchange. They can't (for the most part) buy stock listed on foreign stock exchanges nor even ones on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The problem with China's domestic stock market and the Shanghai Stock Exchange is that returns aren't great, maybe due to issues of government policy and/or things like insider trading. Thus for many Chinese real estate would seem like the only kind of investment that made sense.
