3:30 Housewife: "Hey! Who are you and what are you doing in my house?" Chemist: "Oh, don't mind me. I'm just collecting samples from your oven."

@slothfulcobra "It'd be interesting if we started adopting new sewage infrastructure to harvest urine en masse." One possible issue with this is that at any given time some portion of the population is on some medication. Traces of that medication ending up in fertilizer and the food could be harmful.

2:45 AFAIK, the current theory on why they didn't decompose is that microbes and fungi hadn't yet evolved the ability to decompose lignin.
11
@craigwiddison4118 I wonder how he would have reacted to jello shots.

6:56 Wouldn't it be more efficient to arrange those circles in a hexagonal lattice rather than a square lattice? There would be less unirrigated space between them.
5
Don't worry. They're merely being filmed.

@moartems5076 "So US&A garbage food vs european quality food." Both kinds of nougat are unhealthy (due to high sugar content).
4
@oneautumnleaf5270 "Technically the alcohol is burned off." Not necessarily. You might have most of it left in the food depending on how you cook your food. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxqAGbJ3bSA

Are you sure? That sounds way low. I have measuring spoons for those and the tablespoon is 15 ml (whereas the teaspoon is 5 ml).
3
You should have complained about that. Likely you would have gotten at least one free packet of rice and hopefully, they would learn about the problem to avoid it in the future.
3
@moartems5076 I agree.
2
WTF? Is my country, Finland, really that iodine deficient?
2
@Jadys_ "which has a link to salt" How is that known?
2
@isodoubIet "Whether the pan will heat or not doesn't really depend on whether it's "magnetic", ferrous, or whether a magnet will stick to it." I disagree because, as you wrote later: "the skin effect which reduces the conductor's effective cross-sectional area at higher frequencies. The skin effect is especially strong in iron because of its high magnetic permeability." Being magnetic is what (in practice) determines whether an induction cooker can effectively heat e.g. a pan. If it's not magnetic the current isn't restricted near the surface and the resistance of the area where the current flows will be too low for effective heating at reasonable amounts of current.
2
@cezarcatalin1406 "Wrong, you actually need a very thin piece of aluminium that can be penetrated by magnetic fields." It's not about being penetrated by magnetic fields. A thin piece of aluminium has higher resistance so it can be effectively heated by a current that the induction cooker can produce.

@ultimatehamsandwich734 "In theory yes but then theres the issue of even water distribution between each section." Isn't it the same (except worse) for the square lattice seen here?
2
"innumerable talents" Music, journalism, cooking. That's 3.
2
Should be called "pavo double precision".
2
In Finnish, it's "kalkkuna" which comes from the city of Calicut (a.k.a. Kozhikode) in India just like the name in Dutch and many other languages.
2
Won't work.

Thawing a lot of meat in the fridge has the advantage that it reduces the fridge's electricity consumption.
1
Maybe Adam could have debate with some pro-famine youtuber.
1
@GhostyOcean "idk about the original comment" It's about inductive reasoning. E.g. I've only ever seen white swans; therefore all swans must be white.
1
But that then also takes away the speed and efficiency benefits of the induction stove. That interface plate will basically act like the cast iron hot plates in the older style electric stoves.
1
It's "Crock" not "crook". Crock-Pot™ is a brand of slow cookers.
1
@angelsanchez6028 "works as fertilizer" I find it hard to believe that the rice water would have enough phosphorus or nitrogen to work as a fertilizer (though it shouldn't any worse for watering than "regular" water either).
1
@boulderbash19700209 "So there's no reason to wash it." There can still be a reason to wash it if you don't like the free starch making the rice sticky, but that's a matter of taste.
1
5:17 "Me, I'll continue to put cheap Pinot Grigio in just about everything I cook." Adam should be an accountant. It'd be very easy to notice if he ever cooks the books.
1
Is it necessary to pasteurize the juice when making cider? I'd imagine it would destroy some of the vitamins present in the apple juice.
1
@kjdude8765 I meant hard cider. (Presumably unfermented juice can be preserved by freezing it but that's not possible during fermentation.)
1
@kjdude8765 Thanks for the info.
1
Why not go a step further and just call it an animal?
1
But aren't the teaspoon and tablespoon just 5 ml and 15 ml respectively?
1
@DokterRoetker "I had a recipe call for a teaspoon of pepper. It didn't specify ground pepper, or how course of a grind." I don't think stating the amount in weight would help much in that particular case. Measuring such small amounts by weight accurately would at least be annoying, if not necessarily super difficult. Also, getting the amount right might not help all that much if the ground vs. non-ground is wrong.
1
But can you the mother of vinegar? What would it taste like (other than sour)?
1
Stainless steel can be ferrous or non-ferrous depending on the type.
1
What about one made of cast iron?
1
Maybe he eats small dinners but big breakfasts, lunches, and suppers.
1
2:52 "Isn't wine expensive?" I think this is a bit truer for me considering the alcohol tax is almost 4€ per liter and there's a 24% VAT on top of that.
1
"you can't use [...] a non stick pan on an induction cooker" Of course, you can use a non-stick pan on an induction cooker. I do it all the time.
1
@ckqy7277 "Also to the newer cheats he helps while it’s mainly the experienced chef he gets mad at." But one might still argue that making entertainment of berating others is a bit problematic. And, even if it isn't, Ramsey cannot expect to be treated gently if that's not how he behaves.
