@sirtophattingson8946 I'd say the Greens here in Finland are fairly reasonable. They're hardly flawless, though. They were anti-nuclear in the past but luckily they have dropped that stance.

@Fruzhin5483 I think a big part of why Bulgaria is poor is much more recent than 600 years ago. It's because it was held back by Real Socialism. Though that's not the whole story because it doesn't explain why Bulgaria is poorer than other former Socialist countries (in the EU).

It should still be noted that Americans don't pay that much out of pocket. Rather, they pay for insurance (either directly or through their employer) and then the insurer picks up the bill so they don't have to pay out of pocket.

@streetviewer538 Data doesn't seem agree with you. According to the CIA World Factbook the real (PPP) GDP per capita of the countries you mentioned are: Bulgaria: $27,000 Greece: $31,700 Romania: $32,500 Croatia: $34,300 Hungary: $35,400 Additionally, Bulgaria is currently the only EU member with this figure below that of Russia (though the difference is very small and the Russian figure might be suspect).

@Iphigenia1000 Housing is included in GDP calculations. If it's owner occupied rather than rented, then a rental equivalent is calculated.
