  1. They're not profitable for the capitalist class. Some individual capitalists may benefit if they have invested mostly in armament production or something. Most usually suffer losses, possibly enormous ones. The Rothschilds lost something like half of their fortune due to WWI.

  4.  @Mike22313  I don't think nuclear waste processing is a very pressing issue. The volume of waste from nuclear plants is quite low and it can easily be kept in temporary storage for a long time.

  5.  @Mike22313  Not by much. In the case of nuclear energy most of the cost is the capital cost of the nuclear plant. Other costs are much smaller.
