  6.  @guccifer764  "Thinking that recruiting the helots was ever a viable option shows a grave misunderstanding of the entirety of Spartan society." At least Herodotus mentions Helots being used as troops in the battles of Thermopylae and Plataea. Maybe you have misunderstood the Spartan society?

OK, I can understand objecting to that. I had interpreted your comment as meaning that using any Helot troops could not have occurred. I would still like to point out that besides Helots the Spartans also raised some Perioikoi troops.
