  1. 16:10 Why is this incorrect quote being thrown around all the time? Doesn't anyone bother to check that they quotes they hear before repeating them without any criticism. That is not what Kissinger said. According to William F. Buckley (though there is no other source for the quote) he said: "Nixon should be told that it is probably an objective of Clifford to depose Thieu before Nixon is inaugurated. Word should be gotten to Nixon that if Thieu meets the same fate as Diem, the word will go out to the nations of the world that it may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal." [emphasis mine] Note the word "if" there. Kissinger is clearly saying Nguyễn Văn Thiệu should not suffer the same fate as Ngô Đình Diệm (who was killed in a coup). He wasn't giving some kind of unqualified statement that being a friend to America would be deadly.
