I'm a bit skeptical of whether a system where military units would compete for supplies etc. on a market would be better. Markets are generally quite practical in "normal" peacetime conditions where we have to balance between satisfying various different subjective consumption preferences of many individuals. Running a military campaign with the objective of a victory is a very different endeavor. There's a reason why using markets (with varying levels of freedom and regulation) is common for the former but much less so for the latter.

Napoleon and Hitler attacked during the summer. In fact, for Napoleon's forces, the stifling heat of the summer was a major problem.

"Petroskoi" Just to clarify and avoid confusion, this city is known as Petrozavodsk in English (and in Russian but with Cyrillic alphabet).

Jose Raul Miguens Cruz : Given the size difference, there's no way it could have ended otherwise (if no one else intervened) regardless of how ill conceived the invasion plan is. This was probably more of a reference to the casualties that were much higher than the Soviets likely expected.

@VIItut : I just told the Russian name because many people might not know the name in Finnish/Karelian/Veps. In any case, both that name and the Russian one have same origin basically meaning Peter's Factory.

Though I think they also provided the Allies with intelligence.

"You're never getting thoses lives, and all the manhour of work spent making tanks or on the frontline back." You're not getting those manhours back so that part of what could have been produced without the war is lost permanently, but that's not what recovery is referring to here. The volume of production can increase to (and above) what it was prior to the war if the economy isn't mismanaged.

The first example in the video doesn't make a lot of sense. The reason why giving the capitalist's income to the workers doesn't benefit them is because the capitalist doesn't consume anything and just hoards the money taking it out of circulation. That's not terribly realistic. In a more realistic scenario receiving an income transfer does in fact enable higher consumption.

I've usually seen it translated as "Kinship War". I think "Tribal Wars" might give a wrong impression.

@ristusnotta1653 : Both words have several meanings and I don't think the meanings match in this case. One common meaning for both "tribe" and "heimo" is "a smallish (couple of thousand individuals) social group formed of families/clans and with a low amount of social hierarchy", especially in less technologically advanced societies. I think the combination "tribal wars" in English would tend to bring to mind this meaning and thus conjure an image of warfare involving these kinds of groups (like Native American tribes etc.). However, in this case the word "heimo" is used to refer to the different Finnic ethnicities. The English word "tribe" is also sometimes used with similar connotations, like in the case of the 12 Tribes of Israel, but in this case the translation "Tribal Wars" just works rather poorly. Words often don't have 1-to-1 correspondence in meaning and translation can be tricky. Sorry to be so nitpicky but I think the semantics are pretty interesting. :)

@UmaROMC Your comment doesn't seem to be at all related to what I said. For example, nowhere in my comment did I use the term "free market".
