  1. I'm a bit skeptical of whether a system where military units would compete for supplies etc. on a market would be better. Markets are generally quite practical in "normal" peacetime conditions where we have to balance between satisfying various different subjective consumption preferences of many individuals. Running a military campaign with the objective of a victory is a very different endeavor. There's a reason why using markets (with varying levels of freedom and regulation) is common for the former but much less so for the latter.
