Maybe Sealand can change its name to that.

@xdmelone3333 That's basically what Sealand is (except that it's not recognized and after 1987 it's no longer in international waters).

@Tubeytime But, as an analogy, e.g. sysadmins aren't sorcerers either but they can easily seem like ones to people who don't know much about computers. The law and the legal process might be slightly more intuitive things but they can still be very difficult for the uninitiated.

As an interesting tidbit, Antarctica also has a country top-level domain .aq even though it's not even a country.

@rhekman "pronounced "know-VELL"" Really? So it's not pronounced the same as the word "novel"?

When it comes to "Ungoogled" being in the name, it's not obvious to me that it's a problem. The purpose of trademarks and trademark laws is to make clear the origin of products. Thus, I can't make my own product and mislead people into thinking it's a Google product by using the Google logo or other similar trademarks. However, the name having the prefix un- should make it extra clear that it's not a Google product which might a good defense against any claim of trademark violation (but IANAL).

@Immudzen "Each program should be in its own directory with its own bin, lib, etc directories." Why would there be a need for a lib directory? Can't you just statically link the libraries so that they're a part of the binary?

13:10 I suspect what they meant by "fork" is something like e.g. Android being a fork of Linux.

@johnrickard8512 "their operations have always been a clusterf**k" Don't say that! GNU Hurd is going to be released any day now!

11:25 Wait! There's a Linux kernel developer vtuber now? What a world we live in!
1
@RustIsWinning Doesn't count as what? As a vtuber? It would be pretty strange to say that playing a role would disqualify one from being vtuber. For many, many vtubers playing a role is a significant part of being a vtuber.
1
@RustIsWinning I'm not entirely sure if I understood correctly but I think that doesn't disqualify one from being a vtuber. Also, I just checked and she's included on Vtuber Wiki so that should settle the question conclusively. :)
1
@RustIsWinning That's understandable, if you've known about them for long through another identity. For me, this was the first time I heard of them so I didn't have an image of them as a non-vtuber.
1
@RustIsWinning One more thing I want to add (which I should've said in a previous comment), playing a role that plays a role isn't unprecedented because at least Hyakumantenbara Salome something like that (I think).

So that's how GNOME is pronounced?
1
@ChristianConrad OK, I'm a bit surprised. The English word "gnome" is pronounced with a silent 'G', right? I had assumed the GNOME desktop would be the same.

@bumpjammy "you shouldn't go around making new systems in Fortran" I don't think using newer versions of Fortran is that bad. However, using Fortran 77, which I think doesn't even have dynamic memory allocation, does sound pretty braindead.

@saiv46 DMCA doesn't address trademark violations. It's about copyright, not trademarks.
1
@saiv46 No, they're not.
