  1. I think Nile Red had a video of making soap and he demonstrated that it's relatively harmless to dip your fingers into a solution of lye. Though I'd assume you'd want to rinse your fingers before the skin starts to get irritated.

  3.  @genli5603 : Short exposure (on the skin) isn't a problem. A longer one is. Btw, pure lye is a solid so it's even less of a threat.
