  1. I would argue that the case Ukraine is different from that of Georgia. Russia is a nuclear power so the West is afraid to engage it directly (unless maybe if it gets even more brazen than it has been to date). Ukraine is special in that it seems to be strong enough to possibly resist the Russian onslaught with the West only helping it through sanctions, arms shipments, and other aid. That was not possible in the case of Georgia.
