  2. In the English orthography, it's the vowels that are most messed up. Consonants are somewhat better. Regarding French, one of my friends who knows both English and French said that the orthography of the English is even worse than that of French and that that's saying a lot. With Danish, the problem probably isn't irregular orthography (though this is just my guess based on Swedish since I don't actually know Danish) but rather that the phonology is so weird.

  3. @Alexander Hanley: Norwegian is kind of between Danish and Swedish but closer to Swedish. (At least, that's what I've been told. I only know Swedish so I can't attest to this personally.) Norway was a part of Denmark for longer but it was a part Sweden more recently and is in any case geographically closer.

  5. Southern Sweden? Are you talking about Skåne, Blekinge, and Halland? Those do in fact rightfully belong to Denmark. :)
