  1. ""substantive" (it's a grammar noun that just means "noun")" The word "substantive" is not used only in the grammar term "substantive noun". It's not a word that was coined to just be this linguistic term; it already existed and had a meaning (outside grammar/lingustics). It's basically a synonym for "substantial". Or sometimes there's a distinction in that "substantial" has to be something major whereas "substantive" is only required to have substance but can be also minor.
