@floydisnutz8443 I'd say Academic Agent's video mostly falls short here. In the earlier parts of the video he just ignores the fact that Patnaik's number is a present-day value calculated using an annual discount rate of 5% (presumably real, though I'm not sure) and compares e.g. undiscounted historical GDP figures to Patnaik's number which is totally uninformative. He does mention the 5% rate later in the video but he then doesn't say (at least not explicitly) anything about whether such discounting should be applied or whether the rate should be 5% or something else. He does make one good point at this point in the video namely that in pound terms Patnaik's figure was actually "only" £9.2 trillion and she got the $45 trillion number by using a historical exchange rate between the Pound and the Dollar which is not a sensible thing to do. Note, I'm not making a claim about whether Patnaik's figure is right or not. I'm only saying that Academic Agent's video doesn't properly address it.
