This only finished after the haitians overthrew there dictator. Buying people to work for you is slavery. There are even cases of haitian children being kidnapped to work there. Haitian President aristide tried to bring this case to the united nation. But the dominican president balaguer threw haitians over the age of 60 and under the 16 out the country as revenge. Sonia Pierre who was a human right activities was arrested at the age of 13 for prosteting agaisnt the living conditions of the bateyes.Some Dominican try to ignore or de-importance the bateyes the same way some armenian try to ignore or de-importance the armenian genocide. But it happend people need to know about it.
