Oh my yes, we know exactly how you feel. We raised a squirrel that i saved from a neighbors cat. My son named him Spock, after obviously after star trek Spock. He became a family member very soon after about a week. Bottle feeding him then moving to solid food. We were his family. I actually had to teach him to go into a tree, by climbing it and calling him. From then on, we had to go out with him to watch him play in the trees. Then inside at night to dine and sleep. He always went to bed in his nest he actually built himself on a hat tree with a towel i tried on it. As soon as it became night he'd go in his bed. Finally after about 18 months he went out on the front porch and climbed up the tree and we didn't see him again. I'd like to think he found a girlfriend. Our neighborhood has dozens of trees around our house and beyond. We will never forget Spock. So I know exactly what you are feeling. 🌹🐿️
