Omgosh Sarah, When will you stop generalizing?
Also, yes you are right. Most people do want people to come in LEGALLY! I too, am an immigrant from Germany, in 1956. My mom is a German citizen, recently passed away, but lived here from 1956 till she died. And she had to get her status renewed, every so many or every year. My American dad, a soldier in the American Air Force stationed in Germany, adopted me. So I'm an American citizen. Why the hell should most past immigrants to the country, have to jump through hoops to stay in America, and these people just sneak across the border and here they are? I'm sure your guest is of Hispanic descent. So what the hell is he going to say? And yes, it does take a year or more for a person to become a citizen. And yes, Americans don't think about immigration that much, because even though we are all immigrants, if you go back to the mayflower. But!!! Even then, they didn't just walk across the border by the thousands. They came in groups of dozens or so on ships planes etc.
And I'm sorry pal. But I worked hard for 50 years in construction. So don't give us this crap that Americans don't want to do hard working jobs.
