  1. I don't imagine a walk around could have seen anything to anticipate such a thing. I know planes are just riveted sheets of sheet metal and obviously eligible for stress fracture, but man, that was a terrible event. Very sad for the deaths and kudos to the crew doing what they did to make it come together. As for the manufacturer, we know there is always cost of construction. Saving a buck. I know planes have to be as light as possible. So sheet metal thicknesses are probably factor of cost. But not when lives are in the balance.
