  1. Railroad workers are on call ALL THE TIME. They have to be available for work at any time, which makes it nearly impossible for them to have any kind of schedule for their personal lives, such as making doctor's appointments. They're not striking over money---it's the unbearable work conditions.

  2. WRONG. The companies changed their working conditions to virtually eliminate all days off and require employees to be "on call" at all times.
