Stock buybacks should be BANNED. The executives use the increase in stock value as an excuse to pad their salaries, rather than investing in the company itself and the employees. If they have enough money to spend on their own stock, they certainly have enough to take care of their people and improve safety.

@ruaraidh74 reread what I wrote, or have your mom explain it to you. I DIDN'T say they bought it when it's high---I said they use buybacks to increase its value and use that as an excuse to give themselves more money. You really don't understand economics. In fact, I question your grip on reality itself.

@ruaraidh74 every time a company buys back its stock, the stock is going to increase (that's why companies do it). The only exception would be if Wall Street suspects that a company is circling the drain or doing something foolish.
