  1. 1. You can't rationalize with the anti-Castro crowd. Sure, he's a thug but they're against anything to do with him, even when it's a cut and dry case of parental rights.  2. This happened during the Clinton administration so Republicans saw it as another excuse to attack him and make political hay out of it, any excuse to grandstand and hold hearings while also pandering to the anti-Castro crowd.
