@minefoxc4015 Your elite government decides everything you read, hear and say has to be woke, because he knows better than you do. What are you going to do? You can't elect someone else to not mind your private lives. People these days take civil power for granted. Past generations sacrificed their lives to give us civil power. Don't be ungrateful. Chinese often make this same argument claiming PRC is run by technocrat elites whose skills are far superior than capitalists-elected puppets of democratic nations. Look at what a shet show PRC was and still is.

Democracy isn't about choice. It's about having civil power to limit government's power. Imagine hiring a caretaker for your home who knows you have no power to replace him even if he pee on your bed, hit your children, steal your money, lock you in your basement while he eats your steak. It's not good. Having options is really about letting guys in office know they can be replaced if they try to walk all over us. They have to know they are at risk of losing their authority. That forces them to communicate as opposed to exercising authoritarian force.

@therambler3713 The Economist does global democracy index annually. Think of countries you want to live in, countries you won’t want to live in. And see how those countries rank on that list. It’s not a coincidence countries where civil power can limit state power, where there’s governing transparency, where state authorities can be held accountable, have higher living standards. Dictatorship is authority without responsibility.

Democracy isn’t about choosing leaders. It’s not this dude vs that dude. It’s people vs the state. If a dude wants to dictate how we have to live our lives, what we can hear, see, and say, we can kick him out and say, “No, we get to tell you what you can and can not do.” He can gather a team to help him captain our ship because we authorized him that power, but he can’t take our ship and make us his slaves because we denied him that power.
