They had been brainwashed to see it in different light. To them, the weak will have to endure war crimes, and that's just reality. That you are either strong enough to do it and get away with it ( look at U.S.! ) or you accept it being done to you. Which is why they feel "surpassing" U.S. is of utmost importance. They don't understand it's just CCP's tactic to make Chinese dependent on CCP, to make them believe they will forever be bullied by foreign forces of it weren't for CCP "having the guts to be thuggish".
