Road to Perdition is my favorite cinematography ever. Some of the scenes are just perfectly shot and creative that I can’t imagine doing better. Haven’t seen the movie in a while but my favorite scenes (don’t read if u haven’t seen the film): 1. The kid watching the warehouse shooting 2. hanks character arriving home to find his wife and a son dead — camera stays on the other kid the whole times 3. The AMAZING in the rain shooting of the boss 4. The finale - Hanks being shot. There were more but those 4 scenes really stick out as amazing.

@swampert564 funny story, I was describing to friends how great the cinematography was in Road Perdition and we began talking about our favorite cinematography of older films. I brought up Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid…then I looked it up to see who was the cinematographer and it was the same from Road to Perdition! Then I noticed he did lots of other great work in popular movies!

@SuperRobertoClemente final 2 seasons of Game of Thrones was garbage with final season being the garbage of garbage. Never has a show disappointed so much at the end

@swampert564 omg, can’t be a coincidence that Newman was in all 3! The cinematographer is Conrad Hall…also did American Beauty! Some of the best work ever.

Make the movie 20-40 min shorter and you have a classic! Great story, great acting, great directing other than having 20-40min that IMO didn’t add much to the story and detracted by making it longer. I love lots of movies 3hrs and longer but they always felt like you needed every minute to tell that story

I must be the only person that thinks Succession is just a decent show. It feels so much like an over the top soap opera with every character being annoying and no character having any solid good traits. I thought Barry (ran roughly same years on same channel / streaming service) was much better with more complex characters that have good and bad qualities.

It’s July 2024. Not one film released since 2019 is in my top 50 all time and none even close. In the 51-100 all time, I might only have Top Gun Maverick, Spider Verse 2, Dune 2. That’s it I don’t love movies like I use to. I spend more time watching tv / streaming shows and mini series which have gotten much better. For reference, here are my top movies of all time in no order though the first 3 are my top 3: shawshank redemption, god father 1&2, inglorious bastards, Schindlers list, The Departed, the intouchables, road to perdition, dumb and dumber,

Oh man. I was just watching The Boys and I kept wondering why he’s not a star. He has tremendous acting without saying much

@afranheartnet2462 I agree with guy. I love The Boys but most of the characters or actors are either average acting or their roles just don’t offer a chance to have great acting

I just watched few Nolan movies and I noticed that I love almost all parts of many of his movies…except the often awkward exposition parts!

It really does throw me off when characters are having discussions that don’t really make sense….especially common in movies or programs where coworkers are discussing something that is obvious they should all already know! They dumb them down so they can force feed info to the viewer

The Brutalist was so frustrating. It was a 9/10 for the first 2/3 of the movie and then just goes on tangents that weren’t needed or were introduced too late. The last 1/3 was a 6/10 and overall I give it an 8/10. I don’t think I gave any film from 2024 a 10/10 so 8/10 might put it around 10th to 15th best of the year

@aaronjanlistanco I liked Emilia and I loved Anora. I don’t understand why so many think Anora isn’t Greta or Emilia isn’t good

@joshgarcia6344 why is Emelia unwatchable? I speak Spanish, I can overlook some bad Spanish. And if you’re only referring to Selena Gomez, they sort of clue you on perhaps she’s American raised when she mentions her sister in the US

THOMAS, is it just me or have movies taken a big hit since 2020? I might even say the decline happened in early or mid 2010’s. I can’t think of any movie in the past decade that would have a case for my top 50 all time movies. Severos form early 2010’s for sure but since about 2015 or 2016, not sure.

@ I haven’t the film in 4 years and I recall that transition very well! Even simple things like when the kids are talking to the boss (Newman) and the boss flips a coin stands out. Nothing special but It was shot beautifully…the overcast, the framing, etc.

13:21 I love this part. The theatrical acting of pre 1970’s especially pre 1960ish can be difficult to connect with and it’s the single thing that makes it harder for me to love older movies. PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON THE ACTING SHIFT YOU DESCRIBED HERE
