Its not just poor diet, it’s being poor. It’s working 10+ hours a day to make ends meet and eating what you can when you can. Who shamed people into wearing seatbelts? The police? The law became mandatory in the late 70’s early 80’s nation wide because a study showed people who wear seatbelts survived more than those who didn’t. Insurance companies pushed for the law to save themselves money in death payouts. Oh he didn’t wear his seatbelt, we don’t have to pay for something that was his fault. No one shamed you for not wearing it. Your parents threatened you but that was so they didn’t get a ticket. That man is so far removed from the average person now, he can’t relate anymore.

In the Army a guy looked fat in uniform, on the scale he was overweight for his height and when measured he busted tape. He was a body builder, needed a doctors note to say what the medical community says his body fat is/was, “0”. Since it’s the commanders discretion, the CO put him on the fat boy program. All because he looked fat in the commanders eyes but to everyone else the man was a brick wall.
