If they hadn’t lied about the location of the machete, I think they would have been justified in the Use of the taser. He met them at the door with it, refused to put it down. The puts it away (they let him - which they shouldn’t have) He then ignores their commands to get down. It was a confined space and rushing him would have cause as much damage to the old man as the Taser. It would also have hurt the officers. So taze him and end it.
