  1. One of the best adhesive remover products for that application (on paint or metal) is called "Rapid Remover". It would have made short work of the glue without the need for scraping. Do NOT use it on painted plastics though. Also, Honda's "SHIN-ETSU" silicone grease is great for maintaining the rubber seals (when they need it) in like new condition. Use sparingly.
