  10.  Fauxsho94  you're talking about people living in the disputed territories. These are not Israeli civilians, they have no assigned rights as Israelis, unlike their Israeli Arab counterparts who have full voting rights (the only Arabs in the mideast where that's the real deal) and all other rights afforded to other Israelis. They make up 1/5 of Israeli society and are 'Palestinian' as much as the others are. So Israel is not an aparthied state-all its citizens are treated equally. Regarding those in the disputed territories, the situation is not nearly as good but it's critical to recognize what's going on there. The borders with Israel had been permanently open until the second Antifada, when 1000 Israelis died from suicide bombers. The second Antifada was launched by Arafat in the middle of the peace process when everyone thought peace was finally imminent. Israel shut the borders then and built a wall after that to keep suicide bombers out. Most reasonably. Arafat was an asset of the Soviets and both created the Palestinian people and destroyed them for Soviet interests. He died a very rich man. I'll link you to an article about that. The disputed territories themselves were reaquired by Israel after 67, the 6 day war, in which 3 surrounding nations were preparing to wipe Israel off the map, but Israel won. Jordan had illegally occupied Judea/Samaria (the West bank) since the 48 war when once again Israel was attacked by 5 armies but won. Jordan cleared all the Jews out and never did create a state for the 'palestinians'( Arabs)- there was no call for it until Arafat manufactured Palestinian nationalism in the 60s at the bequest of the Soviets and the Arab League as a method of securing concessions from and drumming up hatred toward the West. They've been offered a state of their own on 5 occasions and their leadership has refused. Most Palestinians today do not want peace with Israel, they want it gone and a Palestinian State built on the rubble. Hamas has this in its charter for example. As long as terror attacks persist Israel will keep close control of the borders and checkpoints and the lives of Palestinians will be rough. There is no other way until they choose to accept Israel and opt for a state of their own beside it, rather than instead of it. They do not want this however. The leadership has consistently refused, and conversations with people often reveal they want the whole landmass with Israel out, no compromise. So there will not be peace it appears. Nor does Israel have many choices about how to proceed- it has an obligation to protect its people, both Jewish and Arabic. Finally keep in mind, Jordan could have repatriated the people it occupied from 48 to 67 but chose not to. The lives of those Arabs,, 'palestinians', was never better than it had been between 67 and 2003 ish after which the borders were closed-there was free movement and loads of work inside Israel for them, lots of interrelations with Israelis and only a small number of radicals causing problems at the insistence of the leadership. Now after isolation for 20 years and the influence of Iran that's no longer the case- radicalization has increased exponentially. The leadership battles among itself and is very hard on the people- it's a brutal culture. It seems there's no way out. But Israel has an obligation to protect its citizens from the terror eminating from the West bank, so the borders remain tight. Again, these are not Israeli citizens and Israel owes them nothing, though has allowed them to stay and had tried to offer them a state on numerous occasions. No it's not aparthied. Stay away from Al Jazeera etc. Btw. Israel isn't the only country they malign, Egypt, Bahrain, others have attempted to ban them for incitement. we should too.
