I think the problem we have in America now w/automation is it takes all the simple no to low skill jobs away and there's still too many people not willing or not smart enough to either go to school or be inspired enough to create new businesses or work more higher-thinking jobs, so they are going to be crying for some sort of fix to this. Have you ever checked out The Venus Project? I'm very interested in it. The founder Jaque Fresco knew that automation would be the future and he designed a new model that supercedes any economic model we have today in theory and says the automation would allow us all to reach a much higher potential and we should not have to live off of money but rather a resource based economy where there are universities people can go to and study whenever they want to come up with more solutions to our problems. He believes major decisions in society should be made up by engineers and other scientitsts - not useless and stupid politicians that generally have no expertise in anything. He has some really interesting architectural models and floating farm designs, central city planning etc to create a utopia-like world on earth, but I know most people wouldn't find that realistic. I think it is a goal we can work towards, and if the economy ever does crash worldwide, which seems inevitable and soon within our lifetimes, then that would be the best time to try something entirely new that keeps people at the forefront of it instead of letting pure profit/money be the driving factor for our economy. I truly believe we need to create a new economy which takes into account the impacts of business or products on people, other animals and the environment as a whole, as current economic models are flawed by not taking into consideration the cost of finite resources and energy, acting as if it were in a vacuum.
