@paulrichards6894 Well, it offers an inbuilt protection against social Darwinism for a start Plus I’ve heard it argued that civilizations in the past have fallen when they lost their religion altogether I wouldn’t be familiar enough with that argument to make it myself. I would venture that a secular society would lack a balancing social force against the predations of a secular government. I wouldn’t go so far to argue for the veracity of the tenets of any religion or belief system but I would argue that atheism is every bit as much a belief system as any religion
