As of January 1, 2024, all Russian men between the ages of 18 and 30 are required to serve one year in the military or complete equivalent training during higher education. However, Russian law allows for some temporary deferments and permanent exemptions. The initial registration process includes a psychological screening, interview, and medical board. The screening assesses the applicant's attitude towards military service, their personality, communication skills, and educational level.
Contract service
Applicants must meet certain requirements, including education, professional training, and physical training. The Defense Minister of the Russian Federation or the Head of the Federal executive authority specifies these requirements. Applicants may also undergo a pre-employment medical exam and psychological selection.
