You clowns. Global warming has never been a threat. Micronovas, supervolcanoes and the resulting ice ages are by far the biggest threat life on Earth faces.

@tallard666 You have no idea what the tilt, precession, or eccentricity of Earth's orbit was 10,000 years ago, let alone millions of years ago. In order to cover the Northern hemisphere with a mile of ice, you first need a tremendous amount of heat to put all that water into the atmosphere. CO2 is a trace gas and a lagging indicator of warming. There is absolutely no evidence that changing the percentage of CO2 in a greenhouse from .03% to .04% over 200 years can have any measurable effect on temperature.

We have not had climate stability for the last 10,000 years, unless you define 'stability' as constant change. I completely dispute the premise that humans had any meaningful impact on the environment prior to the Industrial Revolution. We don't know what the temperature or composition of the atmosphere was 10,000, 100,000 or 1,000,000 years ago. All dating methods rely on a massive pile of assumptions, such as the assumption that ice or geologic deposition is relatively consistent and gradual. Uniformitarianism is a bankrupt ideology. The story of climate is a story of relative calm punctuated by massive disruption and often extinctions. Some of these events are probably cyclical, but not all of them. We are literally in the infancy of all sciences. Once we have another million years of observational data, we might be able to say something more definitive about the climate.
