  1. Whenever something is ludicrously expensive, it's usually because someone else with deep pockets is footing the bill. Tuition is expensive because colleges expect the government will foot the bill. Healthcare is expensive because hospitals expect insurance will foot the bill.

  2. Beyond the mining for rare earth metals, and the strain on the power grid (which still uses predominantly fossil fuels), and the lack of charging stations, and everything else. Barring all of that, the problem with electric vehicles is the same problem with VR and hoverboards. It's a product we've deluded ourselves into believing is the future of technology despite it being so self-evidently a niche product.
