  1. There were a lot of problems in the Apollo missions. Apollo 1 burned its astronauts to death on the launch pad, Apollo 11 suffered computer failures all the way down to the surface and had to be piloted manually, almost scrubbing the mission, and Apollo 13 had a fairly well documented disaster and it is a small miracle that those astronauts didn't also die. Space is difficult, especially on a comparatively small budget to the Apollo programme.

  5. Efficiency. You don't need to factor in food, water, toilet facilities, etc etc for robots, so you can afford to take longer and save fuel.
