@Ana05702 yes, to a higher level due to increased travel time and fuel costs
10
It does when it drives the price up considerably
8
Who's 'we'?
5
And yet they haven't just attacked Israel-linked vessels. Several unrelated vessels were also attacked
5
It would be a tiny, unnoticeable amount to an organisation that already spends an insane amount
4
Russia has also been asking China, Iran and NK, because their failed invasion has become a global embarrassment
4
Horizontal launch refers to aircraft-launched systems like Virgin Orbit
3
Feel free to go live in Russia
3
A greater risk to the UK is uneducated bigotry, often in the form of poorly disguised racism
3
There's a solution to that problem, but it won't be popular with tory voters so it won't happen.
2
RAF F-35B is currently deployed to Iceland on QRA duties
2
We're not getting invaded, they're civilians with no legal mechanism for seeking asylum in the UK
2
It's more to do with random Internet nutjobs finding them on social media and threatening them or their families, than state-level intelligence agencies
2
It's an RAF F-35B, but still an odd choice given they aren't used for UK QRA
2
Both countries have warships in the region protecting commercial shipping
2
There is no 'green' alternative, but that doesn't mean it doesn't provide a benefit. The UK produces nearly half the world's small satellites, so being able to launch them from the UK rather than shipping them across the globe is far better for the part of any space launch we can actually lower the emissions of. To paraphrase Voltaire, don't let perfect be the enemy of good.
2
Go back to GB News with this awful take
1
From 30 launches a year, from a site far away from the majority of the popualtion? I think they'll manage.
1
They're only called in by local authorities when all other practicable options available have been exhausted. The criteria for military aid to civil authorities (MACA) are clearly defined.
1
I knew there'd be uninformed comments below this video, but I didn't expect to see someone failing at basic geography 😂
1
@2PillsA does that just apply to any journalistic outlets who don't completely conform to your world view?
1
No, it's not an act of war by the UK. Ukraine are the combatants. In the same way that China, North Korea and Iran are supplying Russian weapons, but Ukraine isn't at war with any of them
1
15% is still a massive amount
1
The overwhelming majority of RAF aircrew are white
1
Chill out Ivan
1
Correct, we want Russia to withdraw from its invasion so we don't need to send weapons to the defenders
1
Bad things happening elsewhere in the world don't diminish the hardship suffered by these individuals who's homes have been made uninhabitable. There isn't a 'one at a time' policy for bad news
1
Nice try, KremBot
1
For comparison, Florida experiences thunderstorms and rain on a scale we rarely see in the UK, every year between May and Oct, and yet Kennedy and Cape Canaveral operate perfectly well year round.
1
@chrisbellamy2927 because the UK produces nearly half of all small satellites, and around 1/3rd of all currently active satellites are in orbits feasible from a UK launch site. It is far better to launch the many satellites we produce every year from the UK, rather than shipping them half way around the world.
1
@chrisbellamy2927 its not creating more pollution, as these satellites would have launched anyway from somewhere else. Or does pollution not count if we export it overseas? Out of sight, out of mind? Either way, some pollution is necessary in life. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.
1
@PeterPete Ever used GPS? The global economy relies on it, as does your bank account, shops, modern agriculture, etc etc
1
Horizontal launch was what Virgin Orbit was trying from Cornwall, but it didn't last.
1
Ukraine may not be winning, but neither are Russia. Given how superior Russia supposedly is in terms of manpower and equipment, that's appallingly bad form 😂 The US and its allies went up against Iraq, which at the time had the 4th largest military in the world and a very dense IADS, and defeated it over a couple of weeks. Russia can't even manage to take on a poor ex-Soviet state with barely any military
1
Russia invaded Ukraine.
1
Wars don't require votes. Stop just spouting the same old Russian propaganda bs, Ivan
1
Because getting solid information from a war zone is difficult and dangerous
1
Pensioners pay tax, genius
1
They've already attacked at least two unconnected civilian vessels
1
No different to Kennedy/Cape Canaveral then
1
Why bother with cameras? Firmament believers still wouldn't accept the evidence presented to them
1
Chill out Ivan
1
Equatorial launches only matter for near-equatorial orbits. The Shetland site is only launching to orbits with an inclination of between 60 and 120 degrees, so there is no penalty here for being far from the equator.
1
And yet we have, and rely on technology that is in space every day of our lives.
1
They are forced to spend too much money treating fat people and smokers because our population just expects the NHS to look after their poor life choices
1
Who exactly would use Russian weapons against us right now? We're not at war with any other country, unlike Ukraine who was invaded by Russia
1
Russia? Yes, they are.
1
This site will launch to orbital inclinations of around 60 to 120 degrees. That arc accounts for well over 1/3rd of all current active satellites, so a large market. The equator thing only affects low inclination orbits, which aren't what this site will be used for anyway.
1
Airports don't hover in mid-air, in the same way space ports don't need to be in space 😂
1
If Russia pulls out, the problem goes away
