@stevevernon1978 And some official reports are false, such as the fabricated from whole cloth Gulf of Tonkin (non)Incident, or the reports that the Spanish blew up the USS Maine, when the most likely cause was heat from a coal bunker fire setting off the powder in the adjacent magazine that was only separated by a single sheet bulkhead. Other examples were Kaiser Willy II declaring the Battle of(f) Jutland a decisive German victory, or the many Japanese wartime reports to their public. And of course, any reports from the Soviet Union should be assumed to be at least partially false unless independently verified (Katyn Forest Massacre, anyone?).
