What restrained the UK and France from siding militarily with the Confederacy was that it would have started a world war with Prussia and Russia on the Union side, and that was a land war that they could not win. Their publics would also have been against them after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Victory for them over the USA came without firing a shot in 1913, but that is off-topic for this channel other than the relatively minor naval contribution of the USA in WW1.
