  1. The reason they liked Navalny is because his ethnonationlism would be destabilising to Russia. If he wanted just ethnic Russians in the country then he'd have to let go of Chechnya for example. If Russia lost Chechnya then they'd lose a mountainous border and open themselves up to attack. Russia has many such places with non Russians and they are mostly borderlands.
