  2. In early Canada wool was the currency to trade with the Indians. They only had leather prior to contact with the French/English and wool was a superior material due to its property of being warm while still wet. The Hudson Bay Company developed a points system with up to 5 stripes of different colours signifying the size of the wool blanket. A five point was the biggest piece of wool. That colour scheme is still their insignia.
