  2. My family came from Ireland to Canada and broke land in the 1820s and 1830s while Ireland was still part of Britain and decades before Canada was officially founded. The first (real) flag of Canada has a crest on it with a Fleur de Lis, Cross of St. George, St. Andrew's Cross and an Irish harp. There are Irish signatures on the founding document. Australia and New Zealand would have similar stories and likely an even higher proportion of Irish as founding people. The notion that Irish were immigrants like an Algerian coming to Ireland is nonsense. In the US the story is a bit different but nonetheless they never got to sit in their pyjamas all day and collect welfare.
