  1. For comparison the US could sell all it’s gold reserves and not be able to pay down even 5% of it’s national debt. It has no wealth fund, and it’s gold reserves are <5% of it’s GDP. When folks say the US dollar is backed by the government, it’s meaningless. The US government is essentially bankrupt.
