  1. When you are not prepared or the extreme weather is too much for Vancouver to clear. Like she said, when it’s coming down faster than you can clear it. More equipment means more costs, are you willing to pay? My window of travel from Kelowna , Merritt to Chilliwack , on Thursday 22 Dec, conditions were great for 4x 4 with Winter Snow tires, the Highways was in good shape and did the trip in 2 hours. Now it’s time to sit back and relax for Christmas, and watch the traffic fun. Knew this bad weather was coming.

  2.  @samjam6989 when I checked my log, it was 2hrs 24 minutes. The connector was almost empty, and the Coquihalla from Merritt to Chilliwack was blacktop on inside lane almost all the way. That means you can maintain a good average speed, the snow tires make a huge difference, many drives from Edmonton or Calgary to Kamloops never had a problem in winter driving. Never drive without winter tires.

  3. If it makes you feel better, an Audi passed me at 125 km/hr, and years ago when I lived in Norway and Sweden I used to drive rally’s in the winter. Controlled driving and braking, and of course Snow Tires. We also used to race on frozen lakes.
