I said before..yes gavin made an error..but IT DOES NOT MATTER. If Lindqvuist 1000 men cant take the bridge at 18 september 02:00 am (as there are MUCH MORE than 50 SS..but say...1500 ???)..then why do you ASSUME Gavin and Lindqvuist is able to WITHSTAND 1500 attacking SS ..PLUS more SS coming down that way....PLUS more tanks or armoured vehicles (over the pannerden ferry) ..PLUS well directed german ARtillery..directed from the Nijmegen Valkhof Park bunker , if he had secured ONLY the bridge top at 19:00 hrs..?! And if the germans are very capable of sending reinforcements after reinforcements from Das REich (Kleef, Emmerich , Duisburg) ..and the paras DO NOT ..why would these not go through a B-line through the exact same Groesbeek Reichswald ??? i.e. The germans were MUCH nearer with THEIR reinforcements than the Allied with their stuck up 30th and extra paras...

9:30 a US battalion is what ? 300 to 1000 men..average ? 500 ish...they meet a forward SS post plus the AA gun teams..19 ? 50 men ??? 500 versus 50 ???

@TheImperatorKnight but RL war isnt about "scoring game points/capture the flag"...the paras are supposed to take the bridge (both ends) and HOLD it. For..1, 2...3 days...and holding it 3 days ..with all the numbers of germans and material going in that direction as per hindsight would NOT have been possible. a) Nijmegen bridge is NOT flanked by nearby houses , ergo difficult to defend paras infantry against Nazi tanks...or artillery/mortars. b) even if each attack was repulsed..the "Island" between Nijmegen and Arnhem was a hell route as the german artillery was perfectly zeroed in. SO more time would have been wasted in battles in and around the "island" etc. c) When the 30thc DID manage to put their bulk of material (and british artillery ) in the "island" day 4?5?..they did NOT attack Arnhem...in fact they decided to BLOW up the ARnhem bridge. Proving that EVEN IF Frost had kept the few rubble houses at the north end (and by no means all of that area), the 30th crpswould NOT attack further northwards to the Ijsselmeer. Which was the ACTUAL objective. So conclusion: yes Gavin made errors...but no Gavin did not lose the Market Garden battle/project.

at 9:51 and this shows your british bias TIK; the first SS to arrive at the Nijmegen bridge in their armoured vehicles (and which were observed by the 82nd paras in Nijmegen city -edge, and thus scared off the few (much less than 500 men!) lindqvuist paras) coming from the NORTH...passing THROUGH Arnhem bridge , were the SS that were observed by the first men of Frost and by Frost himself...but they WERE ALLOWED TO PASS ON (!!!). Of course Frost needed TIME to install and prepare his men at the North bridge end in Arnhem houses...but still it SHOWS that while it was beneficial for him to let go of this nuisance..he automatically put the nuisance to his colleagues in NIjmegen. Frost is a bit to blame as well...
