  3. So, interestingly enough there was a situation in Ohio a decade back where a 13 year old boy was charged with a sex crime with I think an 11 year old boy? It was complicated since it seemed that it was, as much as they could, consensual. The younger boy actually didn't want the older boy punished; they didn't consider what they were doing a relationship but they were friends. I can't recall how it all went down but there is something there. It was complicated because it assumed that the older boy because he was older and did actions that might be called 'top' with adults that he was criminal in his actions but all evidence pointed to it being mutual activity. There is a discussion to how we treat certain act to be sure there. I don't know how that would apply to impregnation but I suspect if another preteen impregnanted a preteen the male would be considered a rapist even if they agreed mutually to do what they did.

  4. I was going out and knocking doors for Sherod Brown here in Ohio. But at this point I've stopped. I can't imagine there being a point. I don't know how Brown can win with Biden weighting the ticket down. It was already going to be close. Now I feel like it's a waste of my time. This is happening across the country. I'm just stuck here trying to figure out how to prepare for fascism.

  5. I think it's always important to remember that not all Christian Zionists believe the whole rapture, end times thing. However, they still are sold the 'God's Chosen People' thing. Sometimes by those that do believe the end times thing... but not always. There are a lot of Christian Zionists that just think it's being a good Christian. It's treated like being anti-abortion- there isn't any rationale behind it, but it's part of being a good Christian anyway. And it's sold like Christianity has always felt this way even though it's really, really new.

  9.  @luna-p  This was a complicated case because the law was anyone who had sexual relations with someone under 13 was statutory, even if both children were under 13, at which point both would legally have committed a crime. My recollection of the details is fuzzy since I'm pretty sure it's been a decade since I read about the case.

  11. I will always give deference to an apology being genuine since part of the purpose of an apology is to be open about being wrong. Even if this boxer secretly hates trans people it doesn't matter as much as her saying she was wrong; her position now, publicly, is that her take was wrong. Which means she doesn't intend to be part of the culture war as well.

  22. in 2016 I poured over the 2015 mass shooting data- this is the true mass shooting; at least four people shot (not killed) in one event that could span a distance if it was part of one action. Of the some 370 shootings at that time only 3 were stopped by an armed citizen. One of the ones stopped by an armed citizen only because a mass shooting because of said citizen; a limo driver was being held up, rather than give money he fired back; in the gun fight two of his customers got hit and he hit the two thieves who were later caught. However, it's probably safe to say that it would have been less damage if he'd have just given up whatever money he had. Another incident involved a family conflict home invasion; a couple, related to those in the home, came to kill everyone that was there. The mother was killed first off; in the gun fighting the invaders were killed as was the father, though the son survived. I can't recall the last one... but it wasn't much more impressive. Of note, more incidents were ended by unarmed citizens tackling gunmen than by armed citizens. Also of note is one of the shootings was when a misfire happened in a sporting goods store and ten people were shot... that one ended by the gun being put down, obviously. 99% of mass shootings were ended by the gunman surrendering, the gunman killed by police or by suicide. I've never bothered to go through the data again but... I doubt it's very different.

  23. For the record I've never heard anyone suggest everyone go on puberty blockers. However, there is some preliminary evidence that, due to how well even those who do not go on to use HRT that go on hormone blockers do and other things we know about puberty it is suggested that hormone blockers may actually be good for all children. I will say that I'm inclined to believe this is true... but I'm not planning on putting my child on hormone blockers unless they need them.
