in 2016 I poured over the 2015 mass shooting data- this is the true mass shooting; at least four people shot (not killed) in one event that could span a distance if it was part of one action. Of the some 370 shootings at that time only 3 were stopped by an armed citizen. One of the ones stopped by an armed citizen only because a mass shooting because of said citizen; a limo driver was being held up, rather than give money he fired back; in the gun fight two of his customers got hit and he hit the two thieves who were later caught. However, it's probably safe to say that it would have been less damage if he'd have just given up whatever money he had. Another incident involved a family conflict home invasion; a couple, related to those in the home, came to kill everyone that was there. The mother was killed first off; in the gun fighting the invaders were killed as was the father, though the son survived. I can't recall the last one... but it wasn't much more impressive. Of note, more incidents were ended by unarmed citizens tackling gunmen than by armed citizens. Also of note is one of the shootings was when a misfire happened in a sporting goods store and ten people were shot... that one ended by the gun being put down, obviously. 99% of mass shootings were ended by the gunman surrendering, the gunman killed by police or by suicide. I've never bothered to go through the data again but... I doubt it's very different.
